Maharashtra, February 26, 2024 — A case has been registered against prominent Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil in Maharashtra. The state police have invoked several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 341, 143, 145, 149, and 188, in response to Patil's alleged involvement in instigating a road blockade that led to a massive traffic jam. The incident caused significant inconvenience to commuters, prompting authorities to take swift action.

Accusations Against Deputy CM: A New Front Opens

Manoj Jarange Patil, known for his fervent advocacy for Maratha reservation rights, has once again taken on the Eknath Shinde government. Last Sunday, Patil leveled serious allegations against Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of conspiring against him. In a surprising turn of events, Patil also announced a hunger strike outside Fadnavis' residence, further escalating tensions.

Bus Set Ablaze in Jalna: Unrest Continues

The ongoing Maratha reservation issue in Maharashtra shows no signs of abating. On Monday, enraged Maratha protesters set fire to a bus in Jalna, adding to the turmoil. The protesters also disrupted public order, prompting authorities to impose a curfew in the Ambad tehsil. Additionally, internet services were suspended for 10 hours in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed districts to maintain law and order.

Shinde Government's Move

On February 20, the Shinde government convened a special assembly session to address Maratha demands. During this session, a bill was passed granting 10 percent reservation to Marathas in government jobs and educational institutions. Previously, Marathas enjoyed a 52 percent reservation. However, the recent legislation increased their share to 62 percent. Despite this, Maratha activists insist on being categorized within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) for reservation purposes, citing a Supreme Court ruling.

The Maratha reservation saga continues to unfold, with tensions running high and both sides fiercely advocating for their positions. As the legal battle intensifies, Maharashtra remains at the center of this contentious debate.
