LeT bomb-maker Tunda acquitted in 1993 Mumbai blasts case, raising questions about past acquittals

Ajmer: Abdul Karim Tunda, a key accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, was acquitted on Thursday by a special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) court due to lack of evidence. This marks another instance of Tunda being acquitted in a bomb blast case, raising concerns about the handling of such cases.

Tunda, allegedly associated with extremist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was suspected to be involved in at least 40 bomb blasts across India, including the devastating 1993 attacks that claimed hundreds of lives.

The TADA court's decision comes after similar acquittals for Tunda in the Delhi (2016) and Sadar Bazaar & Kotla bomb blast cases (reasons cited: lack of evidence).

Despite facing charges related to conspiracy, murder, and waging war against the state, Tunda was only found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment in the 1996 Sonepat blasts case in 2017.
